Immigration and immigration hostility, a beloved subject in the Swedish policy! It is not a subject you can speak open about without conflict. There is not a day that you cannot read about it in our newspapers, radio or TV. A debate we had, with one of our famous historians "Herman Lindqvist," expressed his opinion (99) in a daily hot topic in the contemporary right winds blowing environment, with the rise of extremism around the world even in Sweden.
What did he express?
Herman
Lindqvist claimed that today's "Nazi" does not have anything to do
with the 30-and 40-century German Nazism but constitutes a "natural
reaction" from a large part of the Swedish people to the "high
immigration." Not entirely unexpected a quick response came on this. The
issue of immigration and xenophobia is a topic not addressed openly without
creating a direct conflict. On this opinion someone responded, "Why do we
have a growing racism and fighting immigrants?" We believe that one of the
reasons was the ever-increasing immigration, a normal derivation for the rest
of Europe, and in history.
A normal
conclusion is that when foreign people of different cultures and social conditions
sometimes with religious elements confronting them with each other is a result of
a conflict, sometimes it manifests in racist expressions, and Sweden is no
exception. A natural reaction, expected for many - but not in Sweden. Here
you are avoiding discussing it, here there is no connection between immigrant
hostility and increased immigration - of course there is a correlation between
increased immigration and immigrant hostility and perhaps it is time to ask the
question openly even in our society.
No need to
be hostile to see the connection, no need to be racist to question increased
immigration as a cause of the problem. And yes, it is true Lindqvist said that
"violence and immigrant hostility" is part of a natural reaction, and
Nazism is not behind all immigrant hostility in Sweden. For that matter, what is
a Nazi? Today hardly we do not having any real Nazis!
I agree
with Lindkvist, the issue of Nazism, it cannot be compared with Nazism in
Germany, (my family experienced this). The potential core group that exists
today, they are not real Nazis. However, there will always be youths who are
looking for an identity, a purpose in life, poor young people who are easy
victims who do not know better, they are easy to catch in the use of the
propaganda of the groups. Still they will never become a real Nazi. They using symbols,
tattoos, things that give them an identity, they go around shouting "Heil Hitler" on the street hoping
for an reaction, looking for the attention! Do they they understand what it is
about – No!
More racism
has its roots in more immigration, but immigrant hostility has not always to do
with Nazism. Hostility based in conflicts between groups, is a prerequisite on large
immigration. Given increasingly extensive discussions conducted among
politicians, it is somewhat surprising that the issue is not addressed to
"increased immigration in some places a mix of different cultures,
languages and religions" which means a confrontation, a result that
should be expected. This has however nothing to do with Nazism. The fact is
that Sweden has a immigrant hostility but the cause is not Nazism and as thus it
has nothing to do with Nazism in Germany.
While there
are Nazis in Sweden as in the UK and the U.S., however they represent a very
small group. The problem as an ongoing increased extremism as far more
important and dangerous. This is a broad group of organizations with different
specializations, Patriots, Militants, Nazis, White power movement, Ku Klux Klan
and others. These groups started to gain significant power appealed to the
public. So far, it is still on a small scale, but it´s growing. Some of the
group leaders having important positions in our society.
The same trend
can also be observed in the north and in Europe. In Sweden, for example, our white
power party “Sweden Democrats(SD)” is now represented in parliament and in a
number of authorities. Still, they are very limited to a few political issues,
confined to their immigration policies and as often on their inappropriate
behavior in their performances. Outside of Sweden we having the same
development in Germany, Britain, France and especially the United States where
extremism is gaining increasingly larger areas, here often connected with
terrorism.
